Well incase your actually interested I started my extended time in education (its been 20 years now) earlier than most. This however wasn't due to my being some sort of child prodigy, instead it was because my mother enrolled my in play school ("pre-school" for those of an American disposition) early because she didn't want me round the house anymore. Since I was there a year too early, and they realised this, I became the only person I have EVER met who repeated play school.
After this terrible ordeal I then spent a wonderous 7 years in the Abbey Primary School. This was most handy since it was less than 3 minutes from my house. After sitting the much debated 11+ exam (I still maintain its a perfectly valid way of labelling children as failures at a young age....I reckon there may be a blog about that sometime soon) I moved to the Abbey Grammar School, for another 7 years.
Here I spent a few great years, despite the fact it was an all boys school and therefore made me an effective social timebomb with the fairer sex, it was still a great school, with some top notch teachers. I also had the 'honour' of rising to the top of the school, and being the head boy....not sure how I got away with that one, I was still drunk the day the headmaster bestowed the 'honour' upon me.
And so now we come to University. I decided to go to Queen's, my brother had already made the 'big' decision to leave the country for uni in London, and since he seemed to hate it (even though he still lives there) I opted for sunny Belfast. I finished my MSci in Mathematics there and decided to do a PhD in Theoretical Physics. And it is where I am now.
My work thus far has been prodominantly in Quantum Information Processing ('QIP' for those in the know). I'm working closely with my supervisor Dr. Mauro Paternostro on a few areas that all relate to entanglement.(I think its only right that I acknowledge the awesome work that Mauro has been doing with me and for me, he is quite the inspiration!)
You can check out a list of my current papers and read a little more of the area's I'm interested in here.
